 UNITED NATIONS, Feb 15 (Reuters) - A standoff between Eritrea
 and the United Nations escalated on Friday after the Eritreans
cut off food supplies to U.N. troops on their border and prevented
them from withdrawing to Ethiopia.

International surveillance was part of the post-war peace deal
The United Nations has confirmed that its peacekeeping force for Ethiopia and Eritrea, Unmee, has begun a "temporary relocation" out of Eritrea.

The peacekeepers were monitoring the border security zone set up in 2000 at the end of a brutal two-year war which killed tens of thousands of people.

UN: Plans To Relocate Eritrea Peacekeepers To Ethiopia

Nasdaq - Feb 09 UNITED NATIONS (AP)--In an unusual move, the U.N. is being forced to prepare an imminent pullout from Eritrea and plans to relocate all its peacekeeping troops in the African country across the border in Ethiopia, senior U.N. officials and diplomats told The Associated Press.

A new conflict could break out between Eritrea and Ethiopia, the UN says, as it prepares to withdraw its troops.

The UN gave a Wednesday deadline for Eritrea to restore fuel supplies to the peacekeepers on its side of the border, or it said they would have to withdraw. Read more....
